  • Justin Yablon, Lead Mechanic-Controls and Utilities named the 2019-2020 MONROE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT School Related Employees of the Year

    Mr. Yablon is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the district building control systems. He also monitors and evaluates utility usage and acts as a liaison to our local utility service providers. Justin is a competent, positive and reliable employee. He’s always willing to help and to go above and beyond with any task he’s given. Justin’s drive and positive and professional demeanor are what make him the perfect School Related Employee of the Year. Superintendent Mark Porter, Executive Director of Operation and Planning Pat Lefere, Director of Maintenance Jeff Barrows and the MCSD Maintenance Department, were on hand to congratulate Mr. Yablon.

  • CHRISTINA MCPHERSON NAMED KEY WEST HIGH SCHOOL’S NEXT PRINCIPAL

    Veteran Educator and KWHS Graduate takes the helm in 2020-2021. Christina McPherson will be the next Key West High School principal, according to Monroe County School District Superintendent Mark Porter. McPherson, who is the current principal of Horace O’Bryant School, will take over for retiring principal, Amber Archer Acevedo beginning the 2020-2021 school year. “We are excited to have Mrs. McPherson lead KWHS,” Porter said. “Her years of experience and dedication to this school district will continue the tradition of excellence set forth by current principal Acevedo.” Porter also noted that, while the selection committee had a difficult time choosing from a pool of well-rounded candidates, it was McPherson’s “ability to create a positive school culture, focused on teaching the whole student that set her apart.”

  • MCSD STUDENTS COMPETE IN DISTRICT STEM FAIR. Middle and High School Winners Headed to State Competition

    These Sigsbee middle school students, Hannah Atilla, William Stolze, and Edward Strunk proudly display their MCSD District STEM Fair Awards. They, along with winners from across the county will compete at the state science fair next month. Nearly 200 aspiring engineers, scientists and mathematicians gathered in the new Plantation Key School auditorium Saturday to compete in the Monroe County School District Regional Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) fair. Participants in grades 4th through 12th showcased their STEM projects at the annual event for a chance to advance to the state science fair in March.
