  • Attendance
  • Welcome to the MCSD Attendance Website!

The Monroe County School District is calling on all Students, Parents, and Community Members to support and spread the word that Attendance Matters. Promoting the importance of school attendance must begin as early as possible and it must be a community wide initiative. It is impossible to educate children who are not in school. The National Center for School Engagement recognizes attendance as one of the three necessary components of school success. A common myth regarding school attendance is that it doesn’t matter until high school; this myth is FALSE. In fact, research has shown that by the end of elementary school, absenteeism is one of three predictors that a student may drop out of high school; misbehavior and grades being the other two*. Across all grade levels, the Florida Legislature has found that poor academic performance is associated with nonattendance**. The Monroe County School District is addressing the importance of attendance by taking an active role in promoting and enforcing school attendance as a means of improving student performance.
