Key West High School would like to recognize the outstanding Mr. Letter Parks as a GEM. Mr. Parks is a valued bus driver and part time employee at KWHS. He is a difference maker, cultivating relationships with the high school students in both large and small ways, such as perusing the halls of the school, dutifully maintaining the focus of getting students to class, and keeping the students safe. When there is a holiday, he distributes small gifts to his students on the bus as well as to teachers and staff. Most recently, he personally organized an Egg hunt for the high school students during a class change. The eggs had candy and cash prizes inside and the students showed lots of excitement as they participated in the surprise event. Mr. Parks’ positively impacts the school culture in many ways. To quote Mrs. Pat Rech, a teacher at the school, “I give Letter an A+ as he goes above and beyond every day. He has earned it.”

Please help us keep our schools safe The Monroe County School District appreciates everyone’s cooperation during this school year with all our efforts to keep students and staff safe. In keeping with those efforts, we would ask anyone who traveled out of the county during the holidays to consider following CDC guidelines regarding such travel. The CDC recommends: Getting tested within 3 to 5 days after traveling. Reducing non-essential activities for 7 days if you test negative and for 10 days if you do not get tested. Isolating if you test positive for Covid or if you feel sick. The CDC recommends staying away from others for 10 days after testing positive or after symptoms first appear and after 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications. The School District asks those students who did travel consider staying home from school for 7 - 10 days in accordance with this guidance. Your absence under these circumstances will be considered an excused absence and you will be able to continue to attend your classes virtually. Contact your school to let them know your circumstances and to find out how to keep up with your classwork while you are at home during this time period. For information about local testing availability and other Monroe County resources, please visit the Monroe County Health Department’s website at: http://monroe.floridahealth.gov/covid19
