Monroe County School District
Teacher of the Year 2013
Plantation Key School
Stacey is a team player who is willing to share her knowledge and experience with anyone. She has a lot to share as she began her career in Pakistan and taught in Egypt before moving to Minnesota to teach at an international school. This year she is looking forward to sharing her international experiences as the facilitator for the Multicultural Center during MicroSociety time. As a committee member, she offers multiple resources, innovative methods, and a contagious positive attitude. Stacey’s “can do” approach to new adventures is evident in her ability to adapt her materials to the needs of individual children. She is not a one size fits all kind of teacher. Her knowledge of various learning styles is used to differentiate lessons and help each student feel they can be successful in her classroom. Stacey has two adopted children, but still finds time to devote to community service projects. She has supervised: a domestic abuse shelter mural, a clothes drive for orphanages, a book drive and gardening project for senior center, collected supplies for soldiers, sponsored an environmental awareness club, a read-a-thon for Red Cross, adopt the rain forest bake sales and plays, and applied for various grants for other projects. She also volunteers and works with an organization called “Love Without Boundaries” on her personal time. Stacey received a full tuition scholarship to earn her Masters degree in reading and literacy from Walden University (where she maintained a 4.0 GPA!). She was the PKS Inclusion Teacher of the Year in 2008-2009. Her educational experiences include taking on assignments in PreK-3 and ESOL, mentor/peer teacher, host to student teacher, team leader, PTA representative, community service coordinator, grade level lead, calendar coordinator, recruiter for overseas teachers, Box Tops coordinator, and PBS and MicroSociety committee member. She also started and led a variety of clubs: School newspaper, girls’ aerobics class, environmental group, drama club, adult literacy program for refugees, and an afterschool reading club.
