    • If you want to earn the Superintendent Remarkable Readers Award in May, you have the option of either submitting a reading journal of 24 entries or receiving a nomination from a fellow student or teacher. The deadline to submit reading journals and nominations to Mrs. Smith is April 3. See her in the library for more information.

     

    Activity news:

    • Z-Club-ZONTA will be collecting non-perishable foods beginning tomorrow for the women’s shelter in Key West through the end of the week.  Please drop off your goods at the front office.  There will be a box labeled for it. Don’t forget that’s today, tomorrow, and Friday.
    • SWAT Club Meeting in 4-225 on Thursday November 14th at the beginning of lunch
    • The SAVE Club will be organizing Turkey Grams THIS week in the courtyard during lunch. This is a perfect opportunity to say Thank You to a classmate or teacher who has always shown kindness, support, encouragement, or for any other reason. Stop by to fill yours out. 
    • The KWHS class of 2022 Executive Board is accepting donations to help support families during the holiday season.  Please help us by donating non-perishable food items and/or gift cards to help benefit those Families in need throughout this Thanksgiving Season.
    • The French Club will meet in Room 2-205 after school Thursday at 2:40. We will be planning future activities. Anyone interested in French culture is welcome to attend. See Dr. Hollis for details.

    • Please congratulate the Marching Conchs on receiving an overall Excellent rating at their Marching Band Music Performance Assessment this past weekend.  They received an Excellent in Music and Marching with Superiors in Colorguard, Percussion, and also General Effect.
    • Student Council will begin selling Homecoming tickets today at lunch. Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $15 at the door. Exact change is encouraged!
    • The Elks National Foundation awards over $2.9 Million in scholarships to 500 high school seniors nation-wide. Applications are done online- and the deadline is November 5th.  See Mrs. Estenoz in Guidance for more information.
    • Thursday, Oct. 24th is Purple Pinkie Day for Polio. Interact and Rotary Club will be under the pavilion at lunch to paint your pinkie purple for a $1.00.
    • The Conch Campus Restoration Club will be selling for the very first time, “Rose-O-Grams.”  Send a Rose with a note to your friends, teachers, and coaches whomever touches you and your Conch Spirit for Homecoming. Prices are $3 each or 2 for $5. Roses will be delivered on Friday, Homecoming Game Day at 3rd Period. Support our worthy cause in replanting and adding to our planters in the courtyard. There will be a table at lunch under the dome each day! We greatly appreciate you and your support! CCRC ♥️
    • Seniors who did not get their picture taken need to do so this Friday. This will be your final opportunity.
    • Today, is the late registration deadline to sign up for the SAT’s November 2nd However, students can start signing up for the December 7th SAT now.  As a reminder, if students have free or reduced lunch they are eligible for a free waiver for the test and can see Mrs. Estenoz (1-110).     • The Key West High School Marching Band competed in Coral Springs High School in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend for their Florida Bandmasters Association Marching Band Music Performance Assessment.

    • The Key West High School Marching Band competed at the Lehigh “Lightening Tournament of Bands” last weekend in Ft. Myers.  The band performed their Elvis! Show and took 2nd place in their class.   They will be traveling to Coral Springs High School in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend for their Florida Bandmasters Association Marching Band Music Performance Assessment. We would like to wish them good luck.
    • We want to thank everyone who came out for ELL parent night. We enjoyed a great night of awards, prizes and a delicious dinner.

    • If you want to take an AP exam for a course in which you are not enrolled, see Mrs. Smith in the library by Fri, 9/27 so an exam can be ordered for you. 
    • Do you need help with college admissions essays, scholarships, or research papers? Mrs. Smith will hold a Writing Center every Thursday from 2:35-3:30 in the Media Center. Bring essays you are working on or just come by for tips and strategies to get you started.
    • FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE PARENT NIGHT is tomorrow from 6-7 pm in the Media Center. Hosted by the 9th and 10th grade counselors, Ms. Cooper and Ms. Sorli will provide academic advisement on graduation requirements and other relevant KWHS information, including the upcoming PSAT on October 16.

    • The goal of suicide prevention week is to raise awareness so we can stop suicide.  What can you do to help a friend?  Know the warning signs - if someone is feeling depressed or has talked about suicide, listen and don’t judge.  Take threats seriously and urge them to get help.  You can be the one and make a difference.
    • September 11th is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. On this day Americans across the country, remember the individuals lost and injured in the attacks, first responders, and many who have risen in service to defend freedom.  Students can wear red, white, and blue to honor Patriot Day tomorrow.

    • Seniors: Deadline to turn in your Senior Ad with the first payment due is October 1. Baby pictures and Senior Wills are due September 23.  Forms are also available on the school website and outside of Mrs. Stauffer’s room 4-211.

    School news:

    • Today we recognize students from military families during lunch. "Experts say that military children are well-rounded, culturally aware, tolerant, and extremely resilient.  Military children have learned from an early age that home is where their hearts are, that a good friend can be found in every corner of the world, and that education doesn't only come from school.  They live history.  They learn that to survive means to adapt, that the door that closes one chapter of their life opens up to a new and exciting adventure full of new friends and new experiences." 
    • April is Alcohol Awareness Month.  Did you know that excessive drinking is responsible for more than 4,300 deaths among underage youth each year?  Be smart, don’t start.
    • If you would like to be an officer in Executive Board or an officer in Student Council, nomination applications are in the front office. The applications will be in the office and we will close nominations at the end of the day on Monday, April 22nd.
    • Saturday, April 20th, the National Honor Society will host a 1950’s style Carnival and an outdoor showing of the movie, Grease at Key West High School’s Backyard.  The carnival will begin at 5:00 with games and food and the movie will begin at 8:00.  Student admission is 8:00.  See flyers around the school or on Facebook for more information.

    • Spread the Word to End the Word is a United States national campaign to encourage people to pledge to stop using the word retard. End the "R" word advocates believe the use of the word “retard” in everyday speech is hurtful and dehumanizing to individuals with special needs. Join our school at lunch on Friday, take the pledge to end the “R” word and show how we truly are ONE HUMAN FAMILY.
    • Keys School Health Fair will be held during lunch today. Students and staff are encouraged to visit the Fair in the courtyard near the gym during lunch.
    • Mathesseen cookie grams are on sale in the art room 1-134, at lunchtime. They will be delivered right before spring break. You may get one for yourself or a friend. We will sell until Friday or until we run out of them.
    • 9th Grade TSIC Workshop, is today at 2:30p.m. in the Media Center.

    • Our Key West High School Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble both received a Superior Rating at their annual Florida Bandmasters Association Concert Band Music Performance Assessment on Saturday, March 2nd. This is the first time in 11 years that both bands received this rating the same year. 
    • AP exams will be ordered on Monday, March 11th. If you are enrolled in an AP course, you are required to take the exam and one will be ordered for you. If you are enrolled in a FVLS AP course or wish to take an exam for a course in which you are not enrolled, you must see Mrs. Smith in the Media Center by Fri, March 8th to be added to the order list.

    • Tomorrow the Keys School Health Fair will be held during lunch to promote existing health services in the Keys from government, nonprofits, and physical activity opportunities. Each agency will be providing informational brochures and promotional items.  Students and staff are encouraged to visit the Fair in the courtyard near the gym during lunch.
    • Seniors who are interested in applying for a $500 Intellectual Freedom scholarship should see Mrs. Smith in the Media Center for an application. Essays and applications are due to Mrs. Smith by March 14th. If you previously picked up an application from her, please see her for more details.

    • Want to be on the front page of the yearbook? Meet at the courthouse on Whitehead Street in the parking lot tonight at 6 p.m. for a cover photo shoot and be part of Key West High School history. Carpooling is encouraged.

    • We would like to commend the organizers of the March for our Lives and all who participated this weekend.  It was a positive community event with many of our students leading the way.
