  • SOS Foundation Taste Test

    SOS Foundation Taste Test

On Wednesday, April 19th, the SOS Foundation hosted a school-wide taste test. Students and faculty got to try a carrot and green onion salad with a homemade dressing. In addition to the salad being packed with vitamins and nutrients, the recipe highlights in-season produce. Carrots are best grown and harvested in Florida during March and April, leading them to be at peak freshness and tastiness. Nearly 75% of students who tasted the salad loved it and stated they would eat it again! Attached is a recipe card if you'd like to try making the salad for your family or friends at home. The taste test is part of SOS’s Farm to School nutrition and agriculture education program which currently teaches approximately 100 fifth-grade students across three Monroe County Public Schools, including Gerald Adams Elementary. Students are taught how to establish healthy eating habits and encouraged to try new healthy foods during each lesson’s snack. Each class that participates in the program is also given an aeroponic Tower Garden to provide hands-on learning about agriculture and food systems in Monroe County.
