Library Summer Reading Program
Families are encouraged to participate in the Monroe County Public Library Summer Reading program starting June 2. Children can participate by picking up a reading log at their local library and tracking their reading. The more they read and the more weekly programs they attend, the more chances they have of winning a prize. A prize will also be awarded to the reader with the most logged time! In addition to reading, our Summer Program includes games, crafts, art projects and performers (along with some live animals).
Every summer, the Monroe County Public Library offers Summer Reading programs to keep kids and their families reading all summer long. Reading is a fundamental skill, and Summer Reading is a community tradition that promotes reading for fun and lifelong enrichment. We create an encouraging framework for learning for all ages during the summer. Reading together as a family helps prevent summer learning loss and encourages strong communication and bonding. Summer Reading isn’t just for kids, but for teens too!
Here’s what readers can do during the Summer Reading Program: Visit any Monroe County Public Library and check out books or download eBooks from our reading app Libby (yes, Libby has books for children and teens too!). Read at least 20 minutes every day and track it on a library reading log. Participate in our weekly library programs to earn more chances to win. From Storytime to musical vibes we have something for everyone!
Each library has different activities. Visit the link to learn more about what is happening at your local branch. Each branches brochure of summer events is included as is a reading log. These can also be picked up at your local branch.
