The FLDOE school grading system measures achievement, learning gains, and maintenance of the school’s focus on students who need the most support. The letter grade also comes with numerical indicators, or percentages, that allow the school to calculate how close they may have been from receiving another grade. For example, Key Largo School was less than one percentage point away from receiving an ‘A’ grade. As a result of the individual school grades, the district earned a district grade of ‘A’, returning to that classification for the first time since 2015. FLDOE results show 20 districts statewide earned an ‘A’, while 33 earned a ‘B’. The overall district rank slipped slightly from 12th to 17th despite the increase in score. For more information on FLDOE school and district assessments, click here.

School administrators will assess and compare the grades to last year, based upon a breakdown of these measurements. Executive Director of Assessment and Accountability Dr. David Murphy said the grades are one of the crucial indicators of student and school success. “The district results are gratifying given the challenges faced by our families, students, and staff this year. Collectively, the schools were able to hold their ground or improve in every measured category except one (social studies achievement) with increases especially evident in learning gains and college and career acceleration. The shared success is a credit to the hard work of our teachers and administrators.”

Superintendent Mark T. Porter said the success came with challenges. “The school and district grades reflect the hard work our students and teachers exhibited with the support of our school administrators and the Teaching and Learning team, put in this school year. The overall improvements across the board reflect a collaborative effort to ensure our students were able to confidently complete these assessments, despite the difficult year it has been. This is truly a remarkable achievement we all are proud of.”

Superintendent Porter added, “Dr. Murphy and our Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, Theresa Axford continue look at the data with school principals for insight into ways we can maximize these gains and ensure success for the upcoming school year.”
