Sheer, an Ohio native, came to Monroe County in 2008, after five years as a reading teacher and literacy coach in Pinellas County. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Ohio University (Athens), as well as a Doctorate in Educational Leadership/ Higher Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Sheer spent his first five years in the Monroe County School District at Horace O’Bryant School as a middle school reading and American history teacher, also serving as a team leader and on the Building Level Planning Team (BLPT). Sheer’s devotion and commitment made him a student and staff favorite, earning him Teacher of the Year and KW Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Quarter during his time at the school.
During his time at GAE, Sheer has played an important role in the planning and implementation of many of the school’s programs, such as the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program, which has earned the prestigious Gold Status since its inception and StoryBook Treasures, a non-profit literacy program that has put thousands of free books into students' homes. Sheer was also instrumental in the planning, construction, and transition to the new school building, which was awarded the Florida Education Facilities Planners Association (FEFPA) 1st place design.
Theresa Axford, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning and incoming Superintendent has full confidence in Sheer’s ability to lead GAE. “Dr. Sheer has a true heart for teaching and learning,” Axford stated. “GAE will continue to flourish under his leadership.”
