Dear GAE Families

A Letter from GAE Principal, Dr. Kyle Sheer

GAE Family and Friends,

In spite of the challenges we are all facing, I hope this message finds you and your family in good health and positive spirit. In March, as the country shut down, and schools turned to fully virtual instruction, you had to quickly learn to balance your children’s education with your own work responsibilities, and in some cases, search for a new job altogether. I speak for all of our teachers and support staff when I say that we’ve seen your efforts, we’ve felt your struggles, and we stand with you 100 percent. Your children are the reason we’re here, and we will stop at nothing to support you in supporting them.

I wish I could say that we’re going to resume normal operations in 2020-2021, and everything will function as it did before Spring Break, but we all know that’s simply not the case. When we do return to school, things are going to look quite different, but our commitment to you will remain as strong as ever. Many of our teachers have already returned to school to adjust lunch/recess schedules, rearrange classroom furniture to enable social distancing, and to find pre-emptive solutions for questions that are sure to arise. We don’t have all of the answers, but we are working diligently to prioritize health and safety for all students and staff.

If you have not already had a chance, please become familiar with the attached documents. The MCSD Back to School Task Force has created a comprehensive plan. It will answer a lot of your questions and will hopefully alleviate some concerns, while providing you with options for your child’s delivery of instruction. Our job at the school level is to take the plan and customize it to meet the unique needs of GAE.

The question on everyone’s mind is, “Will the school year start off with face-to-face instruction, or will we continue with virtual instruction?” The short answer is, Gerald Adams Elementary, and all of MCSD, will follow the guidance of the Health Department. If the Health Department tells us it is safe to return to school, we will do so with an abundance of caution. If they tell us that it’s too risky for students and staff to return, we are ready to deploy virtual instruction until it is safe.

On behalf of the entire GAE family, thank you for your partnership. We look forward to seeing you and your children in the near future. Stay safe.

Kyle Sheer

Principal
